Justin Turner doesn’t expect to go on injured list

LA’s third baseman has been out since Sunday with a groin injury

The Dodgers have been without Justin Turner since he exited Sunday’s game with a groin injury. Luckily, it looks like they won’t be without him for much longer.

When speaking with the media on Friday, Turner told reporters that he doesn’t think he’ll end up on the Injured List with his groin injury.

“I think I’m in a good spot,” he said. “I don’t think the IL is going to happen unless something gets significantly worse in the next day or two.”

Turner left Sunday’s game after hurting his groin fielding a grounder at third base. Dave Roberts removed him from the game as a precautionary move and the team hasn’t played him yet on this road trip.

“We did a pretty good job at catching it right away,” Turner said. “[Dave] taking me out and not letting me make it worse. I’m progressing well and still day-to-day.”

When speaking to reporters on Thursday, Roberts said he expects Turner to be back in the lineup at some point this weekend. Although Turner isn’t playing on Friday, the hope is still that he can return on either Saturday or Sunday.

“We’ll certainly have a better idea tomorrow,” Roberts said. “I just don’t want to push him. Make sure the training staff and Justin feel confident.”

Turner also said he thinks he has a chance of returning at some point this weekend. He said before he returns he’ll have to go through all the progressions and pass some tests. Turner said he recently took some ground balls at third base and felt fine.

“I’m itching to get back and help the team any way I can, whether that’s pinch hitting or being in the lineup.”
