The Dodgers will need innings from their bullpen over the next two games

The Dodgers add another arm to their bullpen, as they’ve recalled right-handed pitcher Edwin Uceta. In the move, the team optioned Andre Jackson to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

For Uceta, this will already be his seventh different stint with the team in 2021. He’s appeared in 14 games and owns a 6.64 ERA and 1.52 WHIP. His FIP is only 4.40, and he is averaging 11.1 strikeouts per nine innings.

Over Uceta’s last three outings for the Dodgers, he’s tossed 3 23 scoreless innings and has allowed only one hit. He also has seven strikeouts with only one walk. With David Price pitching tonight and no announced starter for tomorrow, expect Uceta to toss a few innings at some point this weekend.

Meanwhile, Jackson gets sent back to AAA after making his second career start last night. In two games with the Dodgers, the rookie has allowed only one run in 8 23 innings of action with seven strikeouts. He’ll head back to Oklahoma City, where he’s only made two starts for them this season.

NEWS AND NOTES:

  • Corey Knebel will start for the Dodgers tonight, not David Price. The plan is still for Price to pitch a bulk of the innings, but Dave Roberts wanted to have him come in after an inning.
  • Clayton Kershaw’s bullpen session on Friday went well. The plan is for him to throw another one soon, potentially even facing hitters. There is still no timetable for his return.
  • Tony Gonsolin will throw a simulated game at Dodger Stadium on Monday. The plan is for him to throw two innings.
