Player of the day
Although they didn’t get the win, Matt Davidson nearly won the game for OKC with his bat. For the game, the right-hander hit two home runs, including a grand slam. He drove in six runs, the most he’s had in a game this season. It was also his second multi-homer game of 2021.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
The Dodgers had a late-inning comeback, but six runs from the Las Vegas Aviators (Athletics) helped give them the 10-9 victory. Matt Davidson carried the OKC offense, as he went 3-for-4. He scored three runs and drove in six runs for the night. In the bottom of the fourth, Davidson hit a two-run homer, his 19th of the season. Then in the seventh inning, Davidson hit a grand slam for his 20th homer.
Gavin Lux, who was optioned to OKC the other day, went 0-for-5. In eight games in Triple-A this season, Lux is hitting .259 with an OPS of .607.
Double-A Tulsa
The offense recorded 12 hits, but their inability to do anything with runners on base hurt the Drillers as they fell to the Wichita Wind Surge (Twins) 13-4. The Drillers were able to put a lot of runners on base, but they failed to drive em in. For the game, they were only 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position as they stranded 13 runners on base.
Ryan Noda provided most of the offense, as he recorded three hits, one of which was his 26th homer of the season. Devin Mann also added three hits and Miguel Vargas had two.
High-A Great Lakes
Some great pitching from Great Lakes helped them pick up the 4-3 win over the Lake County Captains (Indians).
Alec Gamboa got the start, allowing two runs in his 3 1⁄3 innings of action. Lael Lockhart, the Dodgers’ 2021 ninth rounder, pitched two innings in relief. It was his third outing so far with the Loons, with this being his best. He didn’t allow a run and struck out five hitters. So far in High-A, Lockhart has 10 strikeouts in five scoreless innings.
Jeff Belge tossed 1 1⁄3 innings and recorded the save. He continues to impress in the momth of August. In 9 2⁄3 innings of work, he has 14 strikeouts and four walks while holding opponents to a .118 average.
Brandon Lewis hit a three-run homer in the first inning, providing most of the offense for the Loons. It was Lewis’ 17th with GL and his 27th of the season, leading all Dodgers minor-league affiliates.
Low-A Rancho Cucamonga
The Quakes’ late-inning comeback came up just short, as they fell to the Visalia Rawhide (D-Backs) 6-4.
After jumping ahead to a 2-0 lead, Jimmy Lewis allowed four runs in the first inning. Kyle Hurt struck out five in two innings, but also allowed two runs. Hurt came over to the Dodgers with Alex Vesia in the trade with the Marlins from this offseason. In 13 1⁄3 innings with the Quakes, Hurt has allowed 12 runs. However, he’s also struck out 24.
