True Blue LA podcast episode 2132: Dodgers mailbag, and the rest

Questions about the lineup, rest, the offseason, and more

This week on the podcast, we answer mailbag questions, which range from postseason lineups to offseason and payroll thoughts, plus comparing the Dodgers to the Lakers in one key area.

Also, we look back at last week, and the use of rest in both the starting rotation and among position players. On the latter point, we note that Monday night was the first time the octet of Will Smith, Max Muncy, Trea Turner, Justin Turner, Corey Seager, AJ Pollock, Chris Taylor, and Mookie Betts all started together, and that we’d like to see more of this going forward.

Plus, trivia on uniform numbers, batting titles, and more.

Thanks to producer extraordinaire Brian Salvatore for all his hard work behind the scenes.

We look back at Ramón Martínez. The infielder, not the pitcher. This one was Ramón E. Martínez, who played in the majors from 1998-2009, and not the longtime Dodgers pitcher Ramón Jaime Martinez.

With Pollock’s late home run to win last week’s marathon in San Diego, we looked back at the Dodgers’ last regular season home run as late as the 16th inning, which was by Martínez in 2006.

Martínez played two seasons (2006-2007) for the Dodgers, and re-upped on a minor league contract after his option was declined for 2008. He was one of four former Giants signed in Ned Colletti’s first offseason as a general manager.

Martínez played mostly second base, third base, and shortstop with the Dodgers, plus one memorable start in right field that led to a “remember some guys” trivia question about a particular Dodgers lineup.
