I just don’t get it. How is it possible that a team 20 games over .500 is 1-12 in extra innings? Can someone please explain it to me? I’m just at a loss for words.
Last week, Eric did a terrific job going in-depth explaining how and why the Dodgers are so bad in extra innings. Make sure to go check it out if you haven’t done so yet. I won’t reiterate any of his points, this is just a post to voice my frustration and confusion.
After losing their first extra inning game of the season in Oakland, the Dodgers somehow won a thriller in San Diego in extras, putting them at 1-1 on the season. Since then, the Dodgers have lost 11 straight games in extra innings. ELEVEN STRAIGHT. Like, even the worst team in baseball couldn’t pull that off.
Hell, it’s only been pulled off once before, and it ACTUALLY WAS BY THE WORST TEAM IN BASEBALL.
The Dodgers have now lost 11 straight extra-inning games.

That's 1 shy of tying the longest such losing streak in a single season in MLB history.

What we’re witnessing this year is historic from the Dodgers. One of the best teams in all of baseball, for whatever reason, just can’t win it in extra innings. No matter what, it’s always the same story. Whether it’s allowing a run when LA is on the mound, or failing to score when LA is at the plate, it’s always the same.
The Dodgers yet again fail to make up ground on the Giants. Aside from when the teams played each other recently, the Dodgers haven’t won a game the same day the Giants have lost a game since July 24.
There is still more than 50 games remaining in the season, which is plenty of time to make up four games in the standings.
The Dodgers will likely have another extra innings game at some point this season. And at some point, this streak will have to come to an end..... right?
