Just like with the big-league club, the offense was quiet across all four affiliates on Friday. Between the five teams, there were a combined 13 runs.
Player of the day
Nick Nastrini struck out nine in 3 2⁄3 innings for the Quakes. The Dodgers’ 2021 fourth round pick now has 30 strikeouts in 13 innings with Rancho.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
This game was out of reach early, as the Round Rock Express (Rangers) scored six runs in the first two innings in their 7-3 victory over OKC. Austin Bibens-Dirkx allowed seven runs to score on nine hits in his 3 1⁄3 innings of action.
For the Dodgers offense, they had only six hits and went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position while stranding seven runners on base. Zach McKinstry hit a solo home run in the first inning and Christian Santana doubled in a run in the ninth inning to keep his hot streak alive.
Double-A Tulsa
Just like with OKC, this one was out of reach as the Drillers fell to the Midland Rockhounds (Athletics) 10-4. It was a 7-0 lead for Midland after the fourth inning. In his 2 1⁄3 innings of work, Gus Varland allowed five runs on five hits with five walks as well.
Justin Yurchak had two hits for the Drillers and is now hitting .393 (!!!!) for Tulsa. On the season, he’s hitting .367 between Great Lakes and Tulsa. All the dude does is hit.
High-A Great Lakes
This one wasn’t pretty, as the Loons fell to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Brewers) 13-2. Of the 13 runs scored, only six of them were earned. The Loons had a whopping FIVE (!!!!!) errors on the night, so it’s tough to blame the pitching too much. Seriously, five errors in one game.
It also didn’t help that the Loons couldn’t get anything going at the plate all night. They went 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position and stranded 14 runners on base.
Low-A Rancho Cucamonga
We have a clean sweep, as the Quakes fell to the Visalia Rawhide (DBacks) 7-3. Just like with the other affiliates, it was a quiet night at the plate. The Quakes had only five hits, with two coming from Jake Vogel and two coming from Yeiner Fernandez.
Nick Nastrini got the start for the Quakes and allowed one run in 3 2⁄3 innings. Nine of the 11 outs he recorded came via the strikeout. That’s nothing new for him, as he now has 30 strikeouts in 13 innings (!!!!) with the Quakes. For those curious, that is a SO/9 rate of 20.8. I get it’s been four games and it’s Low-A, but that’s freaking insane!
