The Dodgers promoted No. 4 prospect Bobby Miller to Double-A Tulsa Wednesday to make his debut against the Amarillo Sod Poodles (Diamondbacks). Miller, a right-handed pitcher out of Louisville, was the 29th overall pick in the first round of the 2020 draft and has impressed everyone in the organization.

Our own Craig Minami recently did an interview with Baseball America that featured Miller as a topic of conversation.

After turning heads in spring training earlier this season, Miller had struck out 56 of the 188 batters he faced in 14 games (11 starts) for Great Lakes this season. The right-hander only allowed 10 earned runs in 47 innings to notch a 1.91 ERA at High-A.

Wednesday didn’t go as planned for the 22-year-old, giving up four runs in the second inning to spoil the night. Amarillo strung together a single, walk, triple and two-run homer in consecutive at-bats.

After cruising through High-A, Miller now faces new challenges in Double-A.

Player of the Day

Outfielder Jose Ramos provided the spark that would lead to the only win for the organization in the minors Wednesday, hitting a two-run homer in the ninth to send the Quakes to extra innings.

It was the second two-run bomb of the night for Ramos, who would end up reaching base five times. The 20-year-old finished with three hits and two walks in six plate appearances. It was the second three-hit game in the last three games for Ramos to lift his average to .305 on the year.

Double-A Tulsa

The Drillers recovered from an early 4-2 deficit to tie the game twice on their way to extra innings. The bullpen couldn’t hold together any longer and allowed a two-out double to allow the ghost runner to score the walk-off run in the 10th as Tulsa fell to Amarillo by the score of 6-5.

A player of the day candidate, James Outman hit two solo homers in the losing effort. Michael Busch hit his 20th long ball of the season and Miguel Vargas hit his 15th in a 3-for-5 effort at the plate.

Outman and Busch went back-to-back to start the game in the first three pitches thrown by Brandon Pfaadt for the Sod Poodles.

High-A Great Lakes

The Loons had a pair of singles with a hit batter sandwiched in between that led to one run in the opening frame Wednesday. That accounted for all the offense Great Lakes could muster in a 5-1 loss to West Michigan (Tigers).

Hyun-il Choi allowed four runs in 4.1 IP and has now surrendered 12 runs in his last 12.1 IP over three starts.

Low-A Rancho Cucamonga

The Quakes scored four runs over the final three innings to take an 8-7 victory over Inland Empire (Angels) in 11 innings. Each team scored a run in the 10th before Rancho was finally able to put the 66ers away in the 11th.

Eight of Rancho’s 13 hits on the night came from the top of the order in Jake Vogel (2-for-6), Ramos (3-for-4) and Sam McWilliams (3-for-6).

Transactions

Double-A: Clayton Daniel was placed on the temporary inactive list. Bobby Miller assigned to Tulsa from Great Lakes.

High-A: Great Lakes activated Jose Hernandez from the 7-day injured list.
