AFL 10/15/12 recap: Chris Reed has forgettable game

2011 first round pick was unable to record an out in Solar Sox loss

H. Darr Beiser-USA TODAY - Presswire

It was a rough day for a few of the Dodgers' top prospects as Mesa got pummeled by the Javelinas 9 to 2. Solar Sox starter Jarred Cosart (Astros) kept his team in the game through the first four innings, but that changed quickly when Chris Reed entered the game in the 5th. The lefty was greeted with back to back triples, but that was just the beginning as he then allowed two more doubles. When the fifth batter of the frame singled that was it for Reed who ended getting charged with 5 runs after Nick Tropeano (Astros) subsequently gave up a big 3-run homer.

Fellow lefty prospect Eric Eadington also pitched later in the game, and he had better luck as he tossed a perfect frame that included a strikeout.

At the dish Joc Pederson remained quiet as he went 0 for 4, and that extended his hitless streak to 15 at bats. Rafael Ynoa cooled off a bit has he "only" had one single, and it was the first game of the season which he failed to reach base more than once.

Other Winter League News: The Dominican Winter League started on Sunday, and as expected there are a few Dodgers playing. The most notable names are Dee Gordon, Tim Federowicz, and Brian Cavazos-Galvez, and when they get a few more at bats I'll write more about them in these recaps.

Coming up: The Solar Sox play Peoria on Tuesday, with Mike Wright of the Orioles organization getting the start. We still haven't seen Onelki Garcia throw yet so he might get an appearance, and I'm still wondering why the Dodgers haven't replaced Yasiel Puig's spot on the roster.
