Mesa was shutout for 8 innings on Wednesday, and while they rallied in the 9th their comeback fell short in a 5 - 2 loss to Scottsdale. As mentioned in the title no Dodger prospects got into this game, and the only offensive highlight for the Solar Sox was a based loaded, 2-out single in the 9th by L.J. Hoes (Orioles) that broke-up the shutout. George Springer (Astros) then came up representing the tying run, but he struck out to end the game.
Since there wasn't much happening in the AFL, I thought I'd take a quick look at some of the notable Dodger players participating in other winter leagues (stats through Tuesday). In the Dominican Dee Gordon is 2 for 12 with a double and three strikeouts, while Tim Federowicz is 0 for 5. J.T. Wise is off to a solid start in Mexico as he is 4 for 11 with a homer, and finally Scott Van Slyke is just 2 for 12 in Venezuela, but both hits have gone for extra bases as he's doubled and homered.
Coming up: Mesa will look for revenge against the Scorpions on Thursday and will send the Dodgers own Andres Santiago to the mound for his second start of the season. Last time out Santiago lasted 3 innings and gave up 4 runs, but only 1 of those scores was earned.
