The Mesa Solar Sox on Saturday were drilled 12-6 by the Salt River Rafters in Arizona Fall League action, and the Dodgers contingent was limited to just one participant. Chris Reed was the lone Dodger to play on Saturday, and his problems continued in the loss.
Down 7-6 in the seventh inning, the Solar Sox turned to Reed to pitch an inning. After he allowed a single and walk to open the frame, Reed struck out two of the next three hitters, but the middle man reached base on an error by Astros' shortstop Jiovanni Mier. Reed then threw a wild pitch for one run and a single for two more.
Luckily for Reed's ERA all three runs were unearned, but that doesn't mean he pitched well. Reed's two walks give him five walks in 5⅓ frames in the AFL to go with four strikeouts. Reed has allowed 12 runs on 12 hits and recorded 16 outs in Arizona.
Coming up: The league is off on Sunday, but Mesa is back in action on Monday afternoon with a 12:35 p.m. PT start in Surprise.
