AFL recap: Desert Dogs offically elminated

Glendale's loss on Monday helped the Surprise Saguaros clinch the AFL West Division title

The Desert Dogs has their 4-game winning streak snapped on Monday after they fell to the Rafters 8 to 1. Salt River out-hit Glendale 14 to 7, crushing 3 homers in the process. Desert Dog starter Stephen McCray (White Sox) allowed two of those homers and permitted 3 runs in total over 4 frames, then reliever Edgar Olmos (Marlins) got lit up for 4 more scores, including the final long ball, while recording just 3 outs.

From there the final three Glendale relievers threw pretty well over the final 4 frames, but at that point it was much too late for the offense to recover. In fact other than a solo homer by Jared Mitchell (White Sox) that lead off the bottom of the first inning, the Desert Dogs did not score. In addition, a Brandon Jacobs (White Sox) double later in the game was the club's only other extra base hit.

Corey Seager was the only Dodger to play in this game, and despite the loss he actually had a pretty solid performance. While he only had one hit, a single, he was able to coax a couple of walks and in total reached base 3 times the first time in a long time.

Coming up: The Desert Dogs will send Michael Lorenzen (Reds) to the mound as their season winds down, and his opponent on the Rafters is still TBD.
