Later today, the Arizona Fall League will have their Fall Stars Game as their schedule heads toward the final few weeks of play. The Dodgers have two players on the West roster, catcher Keibert Ruiz and right-handed pitcher Jordan Sheffield.
Ruiz is scheduled to start alongside top prospects like Vladimir Guerrero, Jr., Keston Hiura, and Luis Robert. The East squad will have MLB Top 10 prospect Forrest Whitley and Taylor Trammell.
In 2017, outfielder Yusniel Diaz and infielder Matt Beaty were the Dodger representatives in the Fall Stars Game. 2016 saw a trio of Dodger prospects, Cody Bellinger, Willie Calhoun and Alex Verdugo named to the Fall Stars team.
Currently, Ruiz is hitting .289/.365/.311 in 51 plate appearances. Ruiz has only one extra-base hit, a double but he’s only struck out twice in 45 at-bats.
Sheffield has pitched in six games, throwing six scoreless innings. He’s struck out five and given up three hits.
The other Dodger prospects have had varied amounts of success in the AFL.
