Summary: 34th round pick Rob Cerfolio, drafted out of Yale as a left handed pitcher, is listed at 6'0" and 185 pounds. Rob will turn 21 years old next month
Background information: Cerfolio, who is from Alabama, led his high school team to a state playoff appearance as a senior. Since he didn't get drafted Rob took the opportunity to attend Yale where he majored in both the history of science and the history of medicine.
Scouting report: When you combine his three years at Yale, Cerfolio had a 4.45 ERA. While he struggled during his first two seasons with the Bulldogs, Rob hit his stride in 2013 when he posted a 2.94 ERA and allowed a .273 batting average against. The problem is that Cerfolio struck out just 29 batters over the 49 innings in 2013 and doesn't seem to have an out pitch.
Signing Status: Given that Cerfolio has a degree from Yale at stake, it doesn't seem likely that he'll sign with the Dodgers as a 34th round pick. He does take his baseball career seriously, however, as he is currently playing summer ball in the Northwoods League with the Mankato MoonDogs. With that club Rob has an ugly 5.26 ERA through 13.2 innings, but at the very least he is getting good experience with a competitive club.
