LOS ANGELES -- With their 29th round pick in the 2014 MLB Draft on Saturday, the Dodgers selected left-handed pitcher Christian Trent out of Mississippi, with pick No. 879 overall.
The 6'0, 205-pound southpaw is 9-0 with a 2.06 ERA in 17 starts as a redshirt sophomore with Ole Miss, with 87 strikeouts and 21 walks in 109 innings. He originally started his college career at LSU before transferring to Mississippi after a year.
Trent helped keep Ole Miss' season alive on Sunday night, allowing only one unearned run in seven innings, with seven strikeouts to even their super regional at a game apiece with Louisiana Lafayette, ranked No. 1 in the country.
Trent out-dueled fellow Dodgers draft pick Carson Baranik (33rd round), who took the loss for ULL allowing three runs in his seven innings of work.
