A four-run rally in the sixth inning, highlighted by a three-run home run by Trevor Story, told the grim tale of the Dodgers' demise, in a 6-1 loss to the Rockies on Monday night at Dodger Stadium.

Mike Bolsinger struck out five of his first 15 batters faced, taking a 1-1 game into the fifth inning, allowing to that point only a solo home run by Gerardo Parra. But the Rockies scratched across the go-ahead run in the fifth inning, then saw Bolsinger stretch past his breaking point in the sixth.

Bolsinger in his first three starts this season faced 21, 21, and then 20 batters. His 21st batter on Wednesday was Nolan Arenado, who singled home Charlie Blackmon for a 3-1 Rockies lead, then took second on an ill-advised throw home by Trayce Thompson in center field.

This brought up the left-handed Carlos Gonzalez, with eight home runs in his last 10 games. Left-hander Adam Liberatore was already warmed up by this point, and Bolsinger had allowed four of the previous six batters to reach base, with one of the outs a sacrifice bunt.

But rather than use the options his eight-man bullpen provides manager Dave Roberts instead opted to walk Gonzalez and let Bolsinger stay in to face the right-handed Story.

The move backfired when Story launched his 16th home run of the season into the left field pavilion, a three-run shot thanks to the walk, giving the Rockies a five-run advantage and belatedly ending Bolsinger's night. He has failed to complete six innings in each of his last 10 major league starts, dating back to 2015.

In his career, Bolsinger has allowed batters facing him his third time through the order to hit 331/.412/.597, including .310/.430/.552 since joining the Dodgers.

The Dodgers offense couldn't get much of anything going against Tyler Chatwood on Monday. They rallied for a single run in the second inning, a frame that saw Howie Kendrick advance Adrian Gonzalez from first to third base on a single.

That was the only hit Chatwood allowed all night.

The Rockies right-hander pitched eight innings on Monday, striking out five while walking four. On the season he has allowed all of four runs (three earned) in 41⅔ innings on the road, improving to 5-0 with a 0.65 ERA in six starts away from Coors Field.

The Dodgers saw their seven-game home winning streak snapped with the loss, and fell to 12-11 this season against the National League West, including 5-5 at Dodger Stadium.

Up next

Speaking of Dodgers pitchers not expected to pitch deep into a game, Julio Urias makes his first start at Dodger Stadium in the middle game of the series. Colorado will turn to Eddie Butler on Tuesday night, a 7:10 p.m. PT start.

Monday partiiculars

WP - Tyler Chatwood (7-4): 8 IP, 1 hit, 1 run, 4 walks, 5 strikeouts

Dave Roberts channeled his inner Ric Ocasek, playing a little "Shake it Up" with the Dodgers lineup in their series opener against the Rockies on Monday night at Dodger Stadium.

Corey Seager and Trayce Thompson have kept it going for quite a while now, and have been the Dodgers' best hitters this season, so they bat second and third. But there are surprises.

Justin Turner bats leadoff for the first time this season, and just the 10th time in his career. He last batted leadoff on April 23, 2015. He has previously only batted second, third or fourth for the Dodgers this season, with 33 of his first 47 starts coming in the three-hole, where Thompson started Sunday with Turner getting a day off.

Thompson is starting in center field, which is especially notable because Rockies starter Tyler Chatwood pitches with his right hand. Joc Pederson started the first 45 games against right-handed pitchers this season. Whether Pederson's crash into the center field wall on Sunday has anything to do with his off day Monday remains to be seen.

Chase Utley also gets a day off on Monday, with Howie Kendrick at second base. You might remember from this morning's week in review that Utley and Pederson had nearly identical weeks at the plate, both 3-for-26 with a double and a walk, hitting .115/.148/.154.

Scott Van Slyke starts in right field, his first start in four games since returning from the disabled list on Friday.

Kiké Hernandez, who has homered in each of his last two starts, including one against right-hander Matt Wisler on Sunday, starts in left field.

A.J. Ellis starts at catcher for the fourth time in six games, including three of the last five against right-handed pitching.

Don't look now, but the Dodgers are winning at home again. They try to keep up that trend in welcoming the Rockies to town for a three-game series beginning Monday night at Dodger Stadium.

The Dodgers have won their last seven home games, dating back to May 17, their longest since an eight-game streak from Apr. 8-27, 2015. Before that, the Dodgers were just 9-12 at Dodger Stadium this season, getting outscored at home 70-69.

The home win streak started against the Angels, then ballooned thanks to sweeps of the lowly Reds and Braves, but in the last seven home games the Dodgers have outscored their opponents 37-12.

Colorado comes to Los Angeles having not won a series at Dodger Stadium since April 25-27, 2014. The Dodgers are 4-0-1 in series at home against Colorado since, winning 13 of those 16 games.

The Rockies have also lost 13 of their last 18 games overall heading into Monday night.

Mike Bolsinger gets the call for the Dodgers, looking to complete six innings for the first time this season. When non-Kershaw Dodgers starters last six innings this season, the club is 14-8, and 6-18 when they don't.

Bolsinger, who has allowed one home run in each of his three starts this season, will have to contend with a red-hot Carlos Gonzalez, who hit two home runs on Sunday night in San Diego and has eight home runs in his last 10 games.

Over his last 13 games, the Rockies right fielder is hitting .442/.491/.981 with 16 RBI and 14 runs scored.

Former El Toro High School star Nolan Arenado also homered on Sunday, and has four homers in his last six games. On the season the Rockies third baseman is hitting .291/.367/.601 and leads the National League in RBI (47) and runs scored (43) while tied for the major league lead in home runs (18).

Arenado has three home runs in 23 career games at Dodger Stadium, hitting .236/.292/.371 in Los Angeles.

Tyler Chatwood has lasted six innings in nine of his 11 starts this season, though one of those ones he didn't was last Wednesday against the Reds in Colorado, allowing five runs in 5⅔ innings.

Chatwood has allowed three total runs in five road starts in 2016. He has a 1.44 ERA in four career starts at Dodger Stadium, with 18 strikeouts and seven walks in 25 innings, but he hasn't pitched here since 2013.

The Dodgers try to extend their seven-game home winning streak when they welcome the Rockies to town for three games to complete the homestand. Here is a look at the schedule for the series, beginning Monday night at Dodger Stadium.

Monday, 7:10 p.m. PT (SportsNet LA)

Since joining the Dodgers, Mike Bolsinger has a 3.26 ERA in 10 starts at Dodger Stadium, with 54 strikeouts and 19 walks in 58 innings.

Tyler Chatwood has been everything the Rockies have asked for and more, averaging over six innings per start with a 2.99 ERA, 44 strikeouts and 19 walks in his 69⅓ innings. On the road he has been even better, allowing three runs in five stats, with a 0.53 ERA, 23 strikeouts and seven walks.

Tuesday, 7:10 p.m. (SportsNet LA)

All eyes will be on Julio Urias for his home debut. At 19 years, 291 days old will be he first teenage pitcher in a game at Dodger Stadium since Dwight Gooden, who struck out 11 in a 2-0 shutout win on May 11, 1984.

Eddie Butler has only struck out 10 of 79 batters (12.7 percent) on the road this season, but he still has a 2.66 road ERA this season compared to 9.37 at Coors Field. Butler has lasted six innings twice in six starts this season, and both came on the road.

Wednesday, 7:10 p.m. (SportsNet LA)

Kenta Maeda has allowed two runs in his last two starts, just one of them earned, and hasn't allowed a home run in four starts. He already faced the Rockies once this season, striking out eight while pitching scoreless baseball into the seventh inning on April 23. The Dodgers face a rare left-hander in the finale with Chris Rusin going for the Rockies. Rusin had a 1.69 ERA in April, but since then is 0-4 with a 6.06 ERA, with 67 percent of his innings during that span on the road.
