After suffering a series of injury blows this week, culminating in the loss of ace Clayton Kershaw earlier in the day, the Dodgers bats came alive in an 8-1 victory over the Brewers on getaway day at Miller Park in Milwaukee.

"It's up to us to pick him up," manager Dave Roberts told reporters before Thursday's game, and that they did.

The Dodgers homered three times off starter Zach Davies, who carried a 1.64 June ERA into the series finale. Trayce Thompson tagged Davies in the second inning, his first home run since June 16. Yasmani Grandal homered in the fourth inning, then Corey Seager homered in the fifth.

Seager was 2-for-4 with a walk, extending his hitting streak to 13 games. The last seven of those games have included an extra-base hit, the longest streak by a Dodger since Yasiel Puig had an eight-game streak in May 2014.

Davies was unable to complete the fifth.

The Dodgers also got doubles from Chase Utley, Adrian Gonzalez and Puig, and Justin Turner added three hits. Seven of the eight Dodgers starting position players had a hit and either scored or drove in a run, or both.

That was more than enough support for Kenta Maeda, who allowed just one run on three hits in his six innings, the second time in his last three start he allowed one run to the Brewers. On Thursday, Maeda struck out six and walked two, giving him 38 strikeouts and 11 walks in June.

Maeda also reached 91⅔ innings on the season, and in surpassing the 90-inning mark earned a $250,000 bonus. Maeda's next bonus is at 100 innings, for which he will earn another $250,000.

Up next

The Dodgers return home, opening a 10-game homestand with a weekend series against the Rockies. The Dodgers haven't announced their starting rotation for any of the weekend games, but new acquisition Bud Norris last pitched on Sunday and would figure to be the one to get the call in the opener. The Rockies will go with southpaw Jorge De La Rosa.

Thursday particulars

Home runs: Trayce Thompson (12), Yasmani Grandal (7), Corey Seager (17)

WP - Kenta Maeda (7-5): 6 IP, 3 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, 6 strikeouts

LP - Zach Davies (5-4): 4⅓ IP, 8 hits, 6 runs, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts

Clayton Kershaw received an epidural injection on Wednesday and will be placed on the disabled list, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Thursday. This sidelines Kershaw through at least the All-Star break, though without a diagnosis yet of his lower back injury he could be out even longer.

Kershaw leads the majors in ERA (1.79) and innings pitched (121), and is now second in strikeouts (145) to Max Scherzer. He was slated to pitch the Dodgers' series opener on Friday against the Rockies, but now will miss that start plus one more before the All-Star break.

The Dodgers still haven't announced a replacement starter for Friday, because there is a decent chance the replacement isn't currently in the organization.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reported Thursday the Dodgers were heavily interested in Rays pitcher Erasmo Ramirez, who has pitched mostly in relief for Tampa Bay in 2016, with just one start in his 32 appearances. But he made 27 starts for the Rays in 2015.

Ramirez pitched an inning in relief on Wednesday night, but before that hadn't pitched since Saturday.

The only logical in-house choices for Friday are either Carlos Frias on short rest after five innings and 67 pitches on Monday, or Jharel Cotton on regular rest. Frias has only pitched on short rest after more than two innings just once in his professional career. Last year he pitched six innings on Sept. 3, then four days later pitched two innings.

One night after suffering a minor knee contusion when crashing into the right field wall, Yasiel Puig is back in the starting lineup in the Dodgers' series finale against the Brewers on Thursday morning in Milwaukee.

Puig was pursuing the home run hit by Ryan Braun in the seventh inning on Wednesday night, and collided into the wall. Puig immediately came up limping but remained in the game.

But after grounding out in the top of the eighth inning, Puig was limping badly while running to first base, and was removed from the game for the final half inning. Manager Dave Roberts said after the game that Puig was removed only as a precaution and that he expected him to start the series finale.

Turns out, he was right.

Kenta Maeda starts the series finale for the Dodgers, making his final start of June. The right-hander has enjoyed a fine month to date with a 2.73 ERA to go with 32 strikeouts and nine walks in 29⅓ innings. Maeda has struck out 26.9 percent of his batters faced in June, compared to 22.4 percent in April and May combined.

Zach Davies starts for the Brewers, in the midst of an even better month. He has allowed seven runs in five starts, putting up a 1.64 ERA in June, with 36 strikeouts against only six walks in 33 innings.

The Dodgers finish up their road trip with three games against the Brewers at Miller Park in Milwaukee, and if we're going to get technical are scheduled to send three rookies to the mound in the series, with a total of 21 major league starts between them.

Here is a look at the schedule and the probable starting pitchers for the three-game series in Milwaukee.

Tuesday, 5:10 p.m. PT (SportsNet LA)

For the first time in his seven major league starts, Julio Urias will pitch against an opponent he has faced before. The left-hander struck out eight in five scoreless innings at home against Milwaukee on June 17. This will be the second straight start for Chase Anderson against the Dodgers, after the right-hander got blitzed for seven runs while recording just seven outs on June 18 in LA.

The 28-year-old in his third major league season was skipped the last time through the rotation, with manager Craig Counsell telling Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel "The purpose is to give him a break. If we look at his first two years in the major leagues (with Arizona), there was stuff scheduled with him when he did have a break. We have the off-days and we're able to do it, so we'll take advantage of it."

Wednesday, 5:10 p.m. (SportsNet LA)

Brock Stewart is expected to get the call from Triple-A for the middle game of the series, with just four walks and 10 runs allowed in his last seven minor league starts, with 55 strikeouts in 45 innings. Junior Guerra has a 3.09 ERA in five starts at Miller Park this season, with 26 strikeouts and nine walks in 32 innings.

Thursday, 11:10 a.m. (SportsNet LA, MLB Network)

Kenta Maeda struck out eight and pitched into the seventh inning against the Brewers on June 19 in Los Angeles, allowing one run. He is 10 outs away from earning a $250,000 bonus for reaching 90 innings on the season. Zach Davies has been excellent in June, at 3-0 with a 1.64 ERA in five starts, with 36 strikeouts and six walks in 33 innings, including allowing a run in seven strong innings in a no-decision at Dodger Stadium on June 17.
