The Dodgers continued to have their way with the Reds, hitting four home runs in a 10-2 win on Saturday at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.

The Dodgers are 5-0 against the Reds in 2017 and have beaten them seven straight times dating back to last season. The Dodgers have beaten the Reds 16 times in their last 18 meetings, dating back to 2015.

The bulk of the damage came in a five-run third inning, including a two-run double by Chris Taylor followed by back-to-back home runs by Cody Bellinger and Joc Pederson, for Pederson his second day in a row with a long ball.

Bellinger’s home run was his 19th, just one off the National League lead. He was in the minors for the first 20 games of the season.

Corey Seager was in the middle of things all day, with a double, single and three walks. It was his third career game reaching base five times, and his first since Aug. 22, 2016, also in Cincinnati. In his last seven games, Seager is 9-for-25 (.360) with five extra-base hits.

Yasiel Puig added insurance runs with solo home runs in the sixth and eighth innings, his second two-homer game of the season, then added a sacrifice fly in the ninth. Puig, who is hitting .313/.393/.583 with seven extra-base hits in June, has 12 home runs on the season, surpassing his totals for both 2015 and 2016.

Hyun-jin Ryu struggled in the first inning, then after the Dodgers put up a five-spot in the third inning Ryu opened the bottom of the frame with three singles and a walk. But he was able to limit the damage that inning to just one run, and made it through five allowing just two runs.

Ryu’s pitch count was high at 105, but he also struck out seven, and picked up his first win since May 18, four starts ago.

The Reds hit three triples on Saturday, the third time in the last 24 seasons the Dodgers have allowed three triples in a game. None of the three Reds who tripled on Saturday — Billy Hamilton, Devin Mesoraco, Jose Peraza — scored.

Cincinnati was 1-for-17 with runners in scoring position on Saturday.

Josh Ravin pitched the final two innings, his first appearance of the season. He was the 18th Dodgers pitcher used in 2017, and got his first career plate appearance. He grounded out.

Up next

The Dodgers go for the sweep on Sunday morning, with Kenta Maeda getting the start in the series finale. The Reds will turn to Bronson Arroyo in the 10:10 a.m. PT game.

The Dodgers will try to beat the Reds for the fifth time in five tries in 2017 on Saturday afternoon in the middle game of a weekend series at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.

In Friday’s win the Dodgers hit a pair of doubles, with Chris Taylor and Joc Pederson doing the honors.

The club is tied for the major league lead with 134 doubles on the season, the same as the Nationals. On pace for 319 doubles, the Dodgers are still on pace to set a franchise record for doubles in a season.

But what has been notable about this season is how much the doubles have been spread around among Dodgers hitters. Here are the Dodgers with double-digit doubles on the season:

Corey Seager 17

Yasmani Grandal 15

Kiké Hernandez 15

Justin Turner 14

Chris Taylor 12

Adrian Gonzalez 11

We aren't even at the halfway point of the season, yet the Dodgers are seemingly chock full of players on their way to at least 20 doubles this season.

The Dodgers record for most players with 20 doubles in a season is eight, done twice. The 1934 squad in Brooklyn hit 284 doubles — in 154 games; their 162-game pace was 299 — led by second baseman Tony Cuccinello’s 32. The 2002 Dodgers also had eight players hit 20 doubles, led by Paul Lo Duca’s 38. That club hit 286 doubles, which was good for only eighth in the National League.

Of that list above, I’d guess at least five are good bets to reach 20 doubles, with Gonzalez’s injury putting a cloud over his chances. But there are more candidates in waiting. Yasiel Puig has nine doubles. Cody Bellinger has eight, and he missed the first 20 games of the season. Pederson has eight doubles, and he has spent two different stints on the disabled list.

The Dodgers conclude their Ohio road trip with three games against the Reds at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. Here is a look at the pitching matchup for the weekend set.

Friday, 4:10 p.m. PT (SportsNet LA)

Alex Wood has nine walks and 12 total runs allowed in his last eight starts. He struck out seven and walked none in 5⅔ innings against these Reds last Saturday. Wood left with a 4-1 lead and two runners on base, but a three-run home run tied the score in a game the Dodgers would eventually win in the ninth inning.

Tim Adleman in three starts against the National League West this year has allowed 13 runs on 15 hits in 10⅔ innings, with eight walks and eight strikeouts.

Saturday, 1:10 p.m. (SportsNet LA)

These Reds tagged Hyun-jin Ryu for three home runs in four innings last Sunday at Dodger Stadium, matching his total allowed over his previous seven appearances and 37⅔ innings. Asher Wojciechowski allowed four runs in five innings in a no-decision last Saturday at Dodger Stadium.

Sunday, 10:10 a.m. (SportsNet LA)

At the start of a stretch of 20 games in 20 days, manager Dave Roberts will utilize the series finale to give the rest of the rotation an extra day of rest.
