As they’ve done all season, the Dodgers lived by the long ball. LA was only able to muster up four hits on the night against one of the worst pitching staffs in all of baseball.

Three of those hits paid major dividends, as the Dodgers hit three solo home runs, en route to their fifth straight win, beating the Rangers 3-1.

For the Dodgers, they are 22-1 when they hit three home runs in a game this season.

Aside from the three homers, Yasiel Puig hit a triple. This is the first time in Dodgers history they’ve won a game where their only four hits were a triple and three homers.

Cody Bellinger got the Dodgers on the board in the third with his 21st home run of the season. Just one inning later, Manny Machado hit his 32nd of the year, giving LA a two-run cushion.

In Machado’s last seven games he’s hit four home runs, matching his total from his first 30 games in a Dodgers uniform.

Yasmani Grandal gave LA an insurance run in the eighth, hitting a solo homer for his 22nd of the year.

Alex Wood threw seven scoreless innings, his first outing of seven since June 27 versus the Cubs. This is the fifth time in Wood’s career he’s thrown seven scoreless innings while striking out five.

In the second, the Rangers had runners on first and second with one out. Wood was able to escape the inning untouched, as a double-play ended the inning.

Texas would threaten again in the sixth, putting runners on first and second. Nomar Mazara grounded out, and yet again Wood escaped an inning.

Kenta Maeda recorded his first save of 2018, and the second of his career. The Rangers tacked on a run, but couldn’t complete the comeback, giving LA the win.

Up Next

The Dodgers will head back to LA for the biggest series of the year. Arizona will come into town for a four-game series. Rich Hill (6-4, 3.50 ERA) gets the start on Thursday. The D-Backs have yet to name their starter.

Yadier Alvarez strikes out season-high seven

Oklahoma City started their last road trip in the regular season with a loss. Tulsa got a walk-off win to begin a big series. Rancho Cucamonga loss ended 7-game winning streak. Ogden won their fifth straight.

Player of the day

Yadier Alvarez made his third straight start after a stint in the bullpen on Tuesday. He pitched 5⅔ innings and gave up three runs (two earned), three hits and walked three. Alvarez also had a season-high seven strikeouts.

Triple-A Oklahoma City

The Dodgers started their last regular season road trip with an 8-3 loss to the Iowa Cubs. The loss put them a half game behind the Colorado Springs Sky Sox in their division race.

Logan Bawcom made the start for the Dodgers and the Cubs greeted him by scoring five runs in the first inning. Bawcom would pitch five innings where he allowed six runs, nine hits and walked five.

Alex Verdugo hit a solo home run to account for one of the runs the Dodgers scored.

Double-A Tulsa

The Drillers defeated the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (Royals) 6-5 to take the first game of their five-game series. The winning run scored when a bad throw allowed Logan Landon to score.

Andrew Istler got the win in relief. Yadier Alvarez started for the Drillers and he gave up three runs (two earned) in 5⅔ innings.

Jacob Scavuzzo got things started well when he doubled home two runs in the first inning. He would then score on a Zach Reks single.

The Naturals twice tied the game, the last time at 5-5 before the Drillers got their last run to win the game.

Class-A Rancho Cucamonga

The Quakes fell 8-5 to the Lancaster JetHawks (Rockies) in their first game of their three-game series at Lancaster. The loss ended their seven-game winning streak.

Lancaster scored three runs in the first inning and would eventually lead 6-0 after four innings. Max Gamboa took the loss for the Quakes, he gave up those six runs in five innings pitched.

Despite the thirteen total runs scored on 25 combined hits, neither team hit well with runners in scoring position. The Quakes, who had 12 hits, went 1-for-13 in those situations while the JetHawks only saw one of their 13 hits come with runners in scoring position.

Jared Walker and Connor Wong each homered for the Quakes.

Class-A Great Lakes

The Raptors got excellent pitching performances and went on to beat the Orem Owlz (Angels) 4-1 on Tuesday. Onlandy Navarro struck out four in five innings pitched and he got the win.

Connor Mitchell and Justin Bruihl each pitched two innings in relief. Mitchell had three strikeouts in his two innings of work. Bruihl got his first save for Ogden.

Arizona-Rookie AZL Dodgers
