The Dodgers have won the last three games they have faced Cliff Lee, despite his 1.19 ERA against them in seven career starts including the playoffs.

Hanley Ramirez continued his blistering pace on Saturday night, leading the Dodgers to a 4-3 victory over the Phillies at Dodger Stadium, the seventh win in the team's last eight games. Ramirez scored the winning run from second base with one out in the ninth inning on a single to shallow right field by A.J. Ellis.

The game probably should not have come to the bottom of the ninth, but we'll get to that in a moment.

After a one-out single by Yasiel Puig and a walk by Adrian Gonzalez in the first inning, Ramirez greeted Phillies starter Cliff Lee with one of the hardest hit balls of the season.

The home run to dead center gave the Dodgers a 3-1 lead. Ramirez also doubled and singled to extend his hitting streak to 11 games, during which time he is hitting .500 (20-for-40) with five home runs. In his career against Lee he is 7-for-13 (.538) with a pair of home runs.

Ramirez even stole a base on Saturday, his third of the season.

Hyun-jin Ryu held the Phillies mostly in check, save for a couple of pitches to Chase Utley. The Phillies second baseman hit a pair of solo home runs, but that was all Ryu would allow. Ryu lasted seven innings and pitched his seventh straight quality start.

Ryu has a 1.90 ERA in nine starts at Dodger Stadium this season, with 49 strikeouts and 17 walks in 61⅔ innings.

The Dodgers nursed the 3-2 lead into the ninth inning and turned to Kenley Jansen, pitching his sixth game in eight days. Jansen was let down by three misplays in the inning, one by each of the three outfielders:

Puig couldn't field a single by Michael Young to open the inning, allowing him to get in scoring position.

Matt Kemp caught a fly ball for the second out but with Young on third base threw home, or at least tried to. The throw was well up the first base line then bounced away from Ellis, allowing Young to score easily.

Domonic Brown hit a catchable fly ball to the wall in left center field but Andre Ethier couldn't corral it, and Brown made it to third for a triple.

Jansen got stuck with his second blown save in seven attempts since being named closer, but recovered to strike out Delmon Young, keeping the go-ahead run stranded at third base, leading to the bottom of the ninth.

Ramirez opened with a leadoff single against Justin De Fratus, then after Kemp struck out Ethier walked. Ellis singled to shallow right field for the club's second walk-off win of the year.

Up next

The Dodgers go for their first winning month of the season on Sunday, and a 6-1 homestand, with Stephen Fife on the mound against Kyle Kendrick for Philadelphia.

Saturday particulars

The right-hander will have surgery to repair thoracic outlet syndrome, relieving pressure on a nerve in his neck, and will miss the remainder of the 2013 season.

Josh Beckett's 2013 season is over. The Dodgers' right-handed pitcher has thoracic outlet syndrome and will have surgery to relieve pressure on a nerve in his neck, and will be out three to five months, the Dodgers announced on Saturday before their game against the Phillies.

Beckett was previously shut down for four weeks with nerve irritation affecting his right arm and hand, but he began a throwing program on Wednesday. After experiencing tingling in his right hand again on Friday, the throwing program was shut down.

Beckett consulted with team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache and with nerve specialist Dr. Greg Pearl. Beckett will have the surgery the week of July 8 in Dallas, to be performed by Pearl.

The right-hander made just eight starts for the Dodgers in 2013, and was 0-3 with a 5.19 ERA. Beckett, 33, is making $15.75 million this season and will make another $15.75 million in 2014 in the final year of his contract.

Peter Moylan, who threw 39 pitches while allowing five runs in Friday night's 16-1 loss to Philadelphia, was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque. Moylan had allowed eight runs and 12 baserunners over 5⅓ innings in his last three appearances.

Dominguez, one of the many pitchers in spring training to receive one-on-one instruction from Sandy Koufax, began his season serving a 25-game suspension for violation of the minor league drug prevention program. But once he hit the mound Dominguez was lights out.

The 22-year-old from San Pedro de Macoris was 1-0 with a 2.60 ERA and five saves in 14 games with Double-A Chattanooga, with 28 strikeouts and eight walks in 17⅓ innings. After promotion to Triple-A Albuquerque, Dominguez had eight scoreless appearances, with 12 strikeouts and five walks in eight innings in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.

Yasiel Puig leads the majors with 39 hits and a .424 batting average since joining the team on June 3. He is also closing in on several Dodgers rookie records.

One year ago on this date the Dodgers signed Yasiel Puig. Now, the Cuban outfielder and budding star has two days left in his first major league month with several Dodgers rookie records in play.

Puig is hitting .424/.459/.696 with 39 hits, including seven home runs, in 24 major league games. Friday night was the first night since Puig's debut that he didn't end the night with a slugging percentage of at least .700. Here are the rookie records still within Puig's grasp:

Hits - 43 (Steve Sax, August 1982): Sax hit .312/.340/.413 with 11 stolen bases and 20 runs scored in one of the craziest months in Dodgers history. They went from 10 games behind the Braves on July 28 to a half-game up on Atlanta just 13 days later, thanks in part to beating Atlanta eight times during that stretch. Sax in those eight games hit .359 (14-for-39). The Dodgers would end up losing the division by a game to Joe Torre's Braves.

Puig needs four hits in two games to tie Sax, or five to beat him.

Home runs - 9 (James Loney, September 2007): Loney put on one of the great teaser months in Dodgers history. Loney hit 15 home runs in 96 games, and after 2007, in 486 major league plate appearances he was hitting .321/.372/.543. But after his nine-homer month to end 2007, Loney never again for the Dodgers hit nine home runs in any three-month stretch, and never hit more than 13 home runs in any season.

Puig needs two home runs in two games to tie Loney, or three to beat him.

Batting average - .443 (Bob Lillis, September 1958): The Dodgers' first year in Los Angeles was a tough one but the Pasadena High School and USC alum had quite a debut. After going 0-for-8 in three August games, Lillis was on fire in September, hitting .443/.478/.574 (27-for-61).

Puig has some work to do to pass Lillis:

10

7

On-base percentage - .479 (Billy Grabarkewitz, May 1970): The rookie infielder played mostly third base but also second. No matter where he played he was a whirlwind of production. In May he hit .394/.479/.564 with 24 RBI and 20 runs scored in 28 games. Grabarkewitz even walked 17 times.

Puig owns a .459 on-base percentage. Here's what he needs to beat Grabarkewitz:

Slugging percentage - .780 (Loney, June 2007): Loney narrowly reached the cutoff of 50 plate appearances in his first month as a regular, with 53 PA. He was on fire, hitting .440 (22-for-50) with three home runs, four doubles and even two triples.

Puig is at .696 and would need the following to pass or catch Loney:

Remember, even if Puig doesn't hit these marks this weekend against the Phillies, he still has three more months left in his rookie season.
