The Dodgers have not lost a series since dropping two of three games in Pittsburgh on June 14-16. With the win on Saturday, Los Angeles is 13-0-4 in their last 17 series.

Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers continued their respective rolls on Saturday night with a 5-0 victory over the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. The victory was the 10th straight for the Dodgers, who reached double digits in a winning streak for the eighth time since moving to Los Angeles.

Dodgers pitchers have a streak of 27 consecutive scoreless innings, dating back to Wednesday against the Mets.

The Dodgers are just the fifth team since 1900 with 42 wins in a 50-game span, and the first in 71 years. They are a ridiculous 25-3 since the All-Star break.

Kershaw retired the first 12 batters of the game, his second straight start taking a no-hitter into the fifth inning. He allowed a single to Domonic Brown to break up the perfect game, but Kershaw promptly picked him off.

The Dodgers put the first four runners on base against Kyle Kendrick, but after plating one run couldn't further cash in the golden opportunity in the opening inning. Andre Ethier hit into a double play and A.J. Ellis grounded out to end the frame.

In the next two innings the Dodgers shot themselves in the foot on the bases. Juan Uribe singled in the second inning but after an errant pick-off throw from Kendrick he was thrown out easily at third base trying to advance two bases. Yasiel Puig doubled with one out in the third but — with cleanup hitter Hanley Ramirez waiting on deck — was thrown out trying to advance to third base on a fly ball to shallow center field.

The Dodgers hit into four double plays in the first five innings, though Kershaw was able to help himself with an RBI double in the fifth inning for a 2-0 lead.

That lead was plenty for Kershaw, who won his 12th game of the year, and his first win against the Phillies in nine career starts. He has lasted at least seven innings in 21 of 26 starts this season, has lasted at least eight innings in seven of his last 10 starts, and leads MLB averaging 7.32 innings per start.

The Phillies didn't get a runner to second base until the eighth inning. Philadelphia put the tying runs in scoring position in the eighth inning, but Kershaw escaped the jam with a strikeout of longtime Dodger nemesis Carlos Ruiz.

In his last 74 starts, dating back to July 7, 2011, Kershaw's ERA is a minuscule 1.99

Uribe unloaded off Luis Garcia in the ninth inning for a three-run home run to put the game away. It finished a perfect night for Uribe, who homered, doubled, singled and walked in his four plate appearances.

Up next

The Dodgers go for the sweep on Sunday and a win streak of Spinal Tap proportions, with Ricky Nolasco on the hill. Left-hander Cole Hamels starts for Philadelphia in the 10:35 a.m. PT contest.

Saturday particulars

Home runs: Juan Uribe (7)

WP - Clayton Kershaw (12-7): 8 IP, 3 hits, 1 walk, 8 strikeouts

LP - Kyle Kendrick (10-10): 6 IP, 7 hits, 2 runs, 1 strikeout

Among all teams that he has faced at least four times, Kershaw's 4.31 career ERA against the Phillies is the highest, and they are the only such team he hasn't beaten. Kershaw is 0-4 in eight starts against the Phillies, including 0-2 with a 5.96 ERA, his second worst ERA at any park.

Only at Shea Stadium has Kershaw been worse, where his 9.82 ERA was a result of his second major league game, in 2008.

I realizing this is cherry picking endpoints but Kershaw's last 73 starts, dating back to July 7, 2011, have produced a 2.02 ERA. With at least 7⅓ scoreless innings on Saturday night that ERA, over 74 starts, will dip below 2.00.

A win would also push the Dodgers' winning streak to 10 games, something they have only done seven times since moving to Los Angeles. The last winning streak that long came in 2006, when the Dodgers won 11 straight. That 2006 streak was part of a stretch that saw 17 wins in 18 games directly following 13 losses in 14 games.

Before 2013 that was the craziest Dodgers stretch of our lifetimes but this season is breaking new ground in the jaw-dropping department.

Notes

The Dodgers have won six of their last seven games in Philadelphia.

The Dodgers have beaten the Phillies in 4 of 5 games this season but have been outscored 24-21, thanks to a certain 16-1 loss.

I was a guest earlier this week on the great Productive Outs podcast, with Ian Miller and Riley Breckinridge.

I also talked Dodgers on The Phil Naessens Show:

The Dodgers beat the Phillies in three of four games at Dodger Stadium from June 27-30, back in the first week of the Dodgers' current 40-8 run.

The Dodgers have an eight-game winning streak they will take on the road for their seven-game trip. The team will likely lose at some point, and judging by the pitching matchups it could even happen this weekend in Philadelphia. Here is a look at the schedule against the Phillies and the starting pitching matchups.

Friday, 4:05 p.m. (Prime Ticket)

The best pitching matchup of the series comes in the very first game, with a pair of Cy Young Award winners pitching in the opener. Zack Greinke has allowed nine total runs in his last seven starts, with a 1.66 ERA during that span to go with 41 strikeouts and nine walks. Cliff Lee has been battling a stiff neck recently, and has allowed at least three runs in six straight starts, including at least four runs in four of his last five outings. Lee has a 5.64 ERA over his last five starts.

Saturday, 4:05 p.m. (KCAL, MLB Network)

Clayton Kershaw has allowed two or fewer runs in five straight starts and in eight of his last nine. Kershaw has a 1.57 ERA in those last nine starts, with 63 strikeouts and seven walks. Kyle Kendrick took the loss at Dodger Stadium on June 30, allowing four runs in six innings. After entering that game 7-4 with a 3.46 ERA, Kendrick is 3-5 with a 7.07 ERA in his last eight starts.

Sunday, 10:35 a.m. (Prime Ticket, TBS)

Ricky Nolasco is 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA in three starts against the Phillies this season, and has lasted at least six innings in all three starts. The Marlins scored just five total runs in those three games, so Nolasco will be looking for more support from the Dodgers on Sunday. It's a little jarring to see Cole Hamels tied for the MLB lead in losses, but even at 5-13 his ERA is 3.65, and in his last eight starts he's at 1.98 with 47 strikeouts and eight walks. That sounds like the Hamels we know.
