The flurry of roster moves continue for the Dodgers.

MIAMI, Florida -- The Dodgers made official after Saturday night's game what was expected, that Stephen Fife will start the series finale against the Marlins on Sunday morning. Relief pitcher Jose Dominguez was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Fife was 4-4 with a 3.86 ERA in 12 games, including 10 starts for the Dodgers in 2013. He was 1-2 with a 7.08 ERA in six games, including four starts for Triple-A Albuquerque in 2014. He last started on April 26, pitching six scoreless frames against Fresno. He pitched a scoreless inning of relief on Wednesday night for the Isotopes as well.

Dominguez has been up with the Dodgers for four different stints already this season, striking out eight in 6⅓ innings in his five appearances. But he also walked three and allowed eight runs and seven hits for an 11.57 ERA. The 23-year-old fireballer has also pitched in four games for the Isotopes this season, putting up a 1.80 ERA with one save, eight strikeouts and one walk in five innings.

The Dodgers on Friday just recalled Dominguez, who allowed two runs on three hits and a walk in the series opener to the Marlins, recording the final four outs of the game.

The Dodgers and Marlins conclude their three-game series on Sunday morning at 10:10 a.m. PT, with the halfway decent Jose Fernandez getting the start for Miami.

It wasn't pretty, but the Dodgers escaped with their fourth win in five games on the road trip.

In a game the Dodgers seemed destined to give away, they emerged victorious thanks in large part to the two players on the roster perhaps most in need of redemption. Carl Crawford hit a two-run home run in the 11th inning to make a winner out of Brandon League, who pitched the final two innings of a 9-7 victory over the Marlins in Miami.

Crawford didn't start Saturday, hitting nothing on the season and in the midst of a 4-for-45 slump. But as a pinch hitter against old friend Carlos Marmol in the 11th, he cranked a line drive deep into the right field seats to reclaim the lead.

League, the much-maligned deposed closer, pitched a scoreless 10th inning to keep the Dodgers alive, then did the same in the 11th to close out the win. League in his last seven appearances has pitched 11 innings without allowing an earned run, with two walks and seven strikeouts

The Dodgers led 7-2 thanks in large part to fellow reclamation project Dee Gordon, who set a career high with five hits, and to Yasiel Puig, who hit a mammoth home run.

Gordon singled and stole second base in the first inning, he singled and scored in the third inning, he singled home a run in the fourth then stole a base and scored on Puig's home run. Gordon then singled home another run in the sixth. He also singled and stole second in the 11th.

Gordon, who was 0-for-10 in the doubleheader before hitting a single in his final at-bat on Thursday, has nine hits in his last 12 at-bats. His three stolen bases give him 19, six more than any other player in the majors.

Gordon is the first Dodgers player dating back to at least 1914 with five hits and three stolen bases in a game.

In the fourth, Puig did this to a 78-mph curveball from Jacob Turner:

The three-run blast widened the Dodgers' lead to 6-2 and gave Paul Maholm some breathing room.

Maholm pitched a quality start by definition, allowing three runs in his six innings of work, with three strikeouts and two walks. He gave up the first home runs of the season to a pair of Jeffs, Baker in the second inning and Mathis in the sixth.

Maholm left after six innings and with a 7-3 lead, then watched Brian Wilson continue his tap dance through the minefield of pitch execution in the seventh. After hitting Adeiny Hechavarria and walking Giancarlo Stanton, Wilson with two outs lost an eight-pitch battle with Marcell Ozuna, who deposited a slider into the left field seats for a three-run shot to cut the Dodgers' lead to 7-6.

Wilson this season has allowed 12 runs and 20 baserunners, while recording 23 outs.

The drama didn't end there, as Chris Withrow allowed a walk and a double to put runners on second and third base with two outs in the eighth. With the powerful Stanton looming on deck, Withrow walked Hechavarria to load the bases. Then, invoking memories of his showdown with Colorado's finest last Saturday, Withrow made quick work of Stanton, striking him out on three pitches.

Kenley Jansen, leading the world in appearances this season, was given a second night off after throwing a season-high 34 pitches on Thursday, meaning Chris Perez pitched the ninth.

A leadoff double by Casey McGehee, a walk to Garrett Jones and a single by Baker loaded the bases with one out, then Perez walked pinch hitter Jarrod Saltalamacchia to tie the game. Perez recovered to strikeout Christian Yelich and get Derek Dietrich to fly out, ending the inning and sending the game to extra innings, the eighth extra-inning game of the season for the Dodgers.

Notes

Puig has a five-game hitting streak, during which he is hitting .478 (11-for-23).

Miguel Olivo was 2-for-5 with two runs scored on Saturday and is 5-for-12 (.417) in three games since getting called up from Triple-A Albuquerque, where he was hitting .390/.438/.661.

Matt Kemp was 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored. He was also thrown out trying to steal for the first time in four attempts this season. It was the first caught stealing for Kemp since Sept. 13, 2012, snapping a string of 12 straight successful steals.

One night after his first full game off all season, Juan Uribe was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk. He scored on Crawford's home run.

Up next

The Dodgers go for a series win on Sunday, sending Stephen Fife to the mound against Marlins ace Jose Fernandez.

Fife, 27, made 10 starts for the Dodgers in 2013 and has started 15 games for them in 2012-2013 combined.

The Dodgers haven't made any kind of announcement yet, but all signs point to Stephen Fife starting the final game of the series against the Marlins on Sunday in Miami. Fife would make a spot start in place of Hyun-jin Ryu, who was placed on the disabled list on Friday with inflammation in his right shoulder.

Manager Don Mattingly on Saturday didn't dispute speculation that Fife would start Sunday, per Ken Gurnick of MLB.com.

The other options on the 40-man roster, Matt Magill and Red Patterson, both pitched Thursday, Magill for Triple-A Albuquerque and Patterson in his major league debut for the Dodgers.

Even if the Dodgers were thinking of somehow adding either Zach Lee or Chris Reed to the 40-man roster for Sunday's spot start, that is out of the question since both pitched Friday night, Lee for Albuquerque and Reed for Double-A Chattanooga.

Fife is 1-2 with a 7.08 ERA with Triple-A Albuquerque this season, but he has been improving of late. He threw six scoreless innings in his last start, April 26 at Fresno, and pitched a scoreless in ning of relief on Wednesday, though he has struck out just two of 26 batters during those two appearances.

Fife made 10 starts for the Dodgers in 2013, and put up a 3.86 ERA with 45 strikeouts and 20 walks in 58⅓ innings. After a bizarre move to the bullpen last August with the Isotopes, Fife's season went downhill. In his final eight appearance of the season - five in the minors, three in the majors - Fife had an 11.57 ERA with 22 walks and 11 strikeouts in 21 innings.

It has been a busy transactional week for the Dodgers, who had Red Patterson make his major league debut on Thursday in Minnesota. When the Dodgers activate Clayton Kershaw for Tuesday's game in Washington D.C., the club will have used eight different starting pitchers in a nine-game span.

Crawford was 0-for-4 in Friday's series opener and is in a 4-for-45 (.089) dating back to April 15. He is hitting just .185/.212/.259 in 24 games this season.

This is where the outfield playing time will start to get interesting, as the Dodgers aren't slated to face another left-hander for the remainder of the road trip.

Don Mattingly has used his all right-handed outfield of Scott Van Slyke, Matt Kemp and Yasiel Puig in seven of eight games against southpaws since Kemp's return from the disabled list, and the only game Van Slyke didn't start in left field he started at first base.

In the 18 games against right-handers since Kemp's return, including Saturday night, the outfield starts (including two starts at designated hitter in Minnesota) have been distributed as follows: Ethier 16, Crawford 15, Kemp 13, Puig 12.

The Dodgers try to rebound from Friday's loss to the Marlins with Paul Maholm on the mound in Saturday evening's middle game of the series. Jacob Turner missed a month with a right shoulder sprain, but he was activated off the disabled list to start Saturday for Miami.

Southpaw reliever Dan Jennings was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans to make room on the Marlins' active roster for Turner.

Here are some notes heading into Saturday's game:

Maholm is 6-6 with a 4.12 ERA in 13 career starts against the Marlins, but since the beginning of 2012 he is 3-1 with a 1.93 ERA in five starts, with 25 strikeouts and 10 walks in 32⅔ innings.

Of the five Marlins to face Maholm more than 10 plate appearances, four have had great success. Casey McGehee is 7-for-23 with a home run, a triple and four walks (.304/.407/.522) against Maholm, and Jeff Baker is 8-for-20 (.400) with four doubles. Reed Johnson is 8-for-15 (.533) with three doubles and a walk, and Giancarlo Stanton is 3-for-6 with two doubles, four walks and a hit by pitch. Donovan Solano is 2-for-13 (.154) with a triple against the left-hander.

Turner has only faced the Dodgers once in his career, allowing 10 hits and five walks in five innings in a no-decision in 2013, with four runs allowed and no strikeouts.

Adrian Gonzalez, Andre Ethier and Juan Uribe are all 2-for-3 against Turner, Gonzalez with a double. Carl Crawford is 1-for-3 against Turner, Hanley Ramirez is 0-for-3, and Maholm is 0-for-2.
