LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers continued to hoard pitching depth continued on Sunday, as left-handed pitcher Ryan Dennick cleared waivers and was sent outright to Double-A Tulsa.

The Dodgers claimed Dennick off waivers from the Reds on Wednesday, but then designated him for assignment, removing him from the 40-man roster, on Friday to make room for another waiver claim from Cincinnati, right-handed pitcher Daniel Corcino.

Both pitchers were designated for assignment by Cincinnati on Monday, and both will join the Drillers.

With two previous posts this week, I have reached my quota for Dennick posts in one week, but just know this: Dennick was a college teammate of current Dodgers relief pitcher Adam Liberatore, who made his major league debut on Friday night. The two played at Tennessee Tech, from which Dennick was drafted by the Royals in 2009 and Liberatore was selected by the Rays in 2010.

Here they are in college (Liberatore is on the right in both photos, per the Tennessee Tech baseball archives):

2008

2009

But before you might think the Dodgers front office is stockpiling Tennessee Tech pitchers as if exploiting some sort of marketing efficiency, just know that Stephen Pryor, drafted out of Tennessee Tech in 2010 by the Mariners, was sent outright by the Twins to Triple-A at the end of March and the Dodgers didn't pounce.

A missed Golden (Eagle) opportunity.

LOS ANGELES -- Another day, another discarded Reds pitcher is now in the Dodgers' organization. The Dodgers on Friday claimed right-handed pitcher Daniel Corcino off waivers from the Reds. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers designated left-handed pitcher Ryan Dennick — who was just claimed off waivers on Wednesday, also from the Reds — for assignment.

Corcino, 24, made his major league debut last season with the Reds, putting up a 4.34 ERA in five games, including three starts, with 15 strikeouts and 10 walks in 18⅔ innings.

The right-hander was once a top-100 prospect in baseball, rated No. 94 by Baseball America prior to the 2013 season, though the publication didn't rank him among the Reds' top 10 prospects in either of the two years since.

He was 10-12 with a 4.25 in 27 games, including 26 starts between Double-A and Triple-A in 2014, with all but one game for Double-A Pensacola. He struck out 119 and walked 74 in 148⅓ innings. This year in Double-A, Corcino pitched a scoreless inning in his only appearance, with two walks and two strikeouts.

The Reds designated Corcino for assignment on Monday.

Corcino has one option year remaining, having used options in 2013 and 2014. He will be optioned to Double-A Tulsa.

The Dodgers have 10 days to decide what to do with Dennick. If he clears waivers the club can outright him to the minors, an assignment the left-hander doesn't have the requisite service time to refuse.

The Dodgers on Wednesday added another pitcher to the organization with the waiver claim of Ryan Dennick from the Reds. Here is a little more information about the 28-year-old left-hander, who was optioned to Double-A Tulsa on Wednesday.

The Reds picked up Dennick from the Royals in the minor league portion of the 2012 Rule 5 Draft, then tried to convert him to starter after pitching 118 of his 123 games in Kansas City's system in relief.

Dennick in 2013 had a 3.55 ERA in 19 games for Double-A Pensacola, with 66 strikeouts and 26 walks in 104 innings. After getting promoted to Triple-A Louisville that year he allowed nine runs in 13 innings before being shifted to the bullpen for his final five games of the season.

He remained in relief for all of 2014 and thrived with a 2.34 ERA in 58 games, all but one at Triple-A Louisville, with 40 strikeouts and 18 walks in 53 innings. Dennick increased his strikeout rate from 15.2 percent in 2013 to 19.3 percent in 2014.

"The thing that's kind of interesting more than anything – he was a guy that jumped off the statistical page in Triple-A," Reds manager Bryan Price told C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer last September. "He led the team in appearances, his ERA was under 2.50, he was a strike thrower and had some success against left-handed hitters as well as right handed hitters, so he's not simply a match-up pitcher."

Dennick in 2014 in the minors allowed left-handed batters to hit just .207/.263/.261, with 25 strikeouts and six walks, but he also held right-handers to hit just .269/.349/.333, with 15 strikeouts and 12 walks.

That earned him his first major league call-up in September, with the Reds. He pitched in eight games, allowing seven runs on seven hits in 4⅔ innings, with four walks and three strikeouts. In his major league debut, he struck out one in a scoreless inning.

In his albeit limited major league duty last year, Dennick averaged 91.02 mph on his fastball and mixed in a slider and changeup, per Brooks Baseball, which also compared him to other left-handed pitchers:

His fourseam fastball generates an extremely high number of swings & misses compared to other pitchers' fourseamers and has essentially average velo. His slider has primarily 12-6 movement and results in somewhat more flyballs compared to other pitchers' sliders. His change is an extreme flyball pitch compared to other pitchers' changeups and has slight cut action.

During his September stint, Dennick got some rookie hazing out of the way, thanks in part to second baseman Brandon Phillips:

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers on Wednesday claimed left-handed pitcher Ryan Dennick from the Reds, and optioned him to Double-A Tulsa. To make room on the 40-man roster, David Huff was designated for assignment one day after allowing four runs in four innings in a spot start against the Mariners.

Dennick, 28, was drafted by the Royals in the 22nd round in 2009, and selected by the Reds in the 2012 Rule 5 Draft. The left-hander allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits in 2⅔ innings in two games for Triple-A Louisville so far this season, with five strikeouts and no walks. Cincinnati designated Dennick for assignment on Monday.

Dennick made his major league debut for the Reds last September, allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits in 4⅔ innings, with four walks and three strikeouts.

Dennick had all three option years remaining entering 2015, one of which is in use now.

The Dodgers have 10 days to figure out what to do with Huff. If he clears waivers he can be outrighted to Triple-A, but as someone with three years of service time can refuse any outright assignment to the minors.

With Dennick in the minors and Huff now off the roster, the Dodgers still have an open spot on the active roster, likely for a reliever. Though that hasn't yet been announced by the team.
