Dodgers have their second late-inning comeback this weekend to take series

The Dodgers came back again, this time with runs in the seventh and eighth to tie the game and then two runs in the twelfth inning to defeat the Padres 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at Petco Park in San Diego.

Kenley Jansen got the official save but Joc Pederson should get a portion of it. Pederson made a tremendous play catching Justin Upton's deep fly ball with two on and two out in the ninth that put the game in extra-innings.

In the twelfth inning, Alberto Callaspo hit his second double of the game with one out. Back-to-back walks to Enrique Hernandez and Pederson loaded the bases.

Pinch-hitter Alex Guererro flew out to right-field and Callaspo was held to avoid being thrown out by Matt Kemp for the second time in this game. But then, Adrian Gonzalez singled in Callaspo and Hernadez to put the Dodgers ahead. Howie Kendrick would strike out for the final out.

Kenley Jansen struck out the first two batters before Kemp got an infield single. Yonder Alonso would the pop up to end the game. Jansen got his ninth save and Josh Ravin won his second game.

For six innings, James Shields had pitched one of his best games this season. The closest the Dodgers came to scoring was when Callaspo was thrown out by Kemp trying to score on Pederson's single.

The Padres scored their two runs in the fifth inning. Mike Bolsinger had matched Shields' fine start and Bolsinger had retired the first two batters.

Then the game unraveled, Shields singled and Will Venable followed with another single to right that put runners at the corners.

Yangervis Solarte walked to load the bases. Justin Upton got his second two-out run-scoring hit in the last two games when he singled in two runs. After Matt Kemp walked, J.P. Howell replaced Bolsinger. Howell would get the final out with no more runs scoring.

Bolsinger had his shortest start of the season pitching 4⅔ innings. Bolsinger gave up two runs, six hits, three walks and struck out seven.

Shields surrendered a run in the seventh when Andre Ethier hit his 9th home run of the season to make it 2-1. Ethier had tripled earlier in the game. This was the seventh time Ethier had a triple and home run in the same game. Since 2006, only Ryan Braun has more games (11) with a triple and home run.

Shields exited after seven innings, Shields allowed the one run, five hits, three walks and struck out six.

In the eighth inning, Yasiel Puig walked with two out and then Adrian Gonzalez tripled in Puig to tie the score. Howie Kendrick struck out to end the inning.

The Dodger bullpen provided solid relief work after Bolsinger was removed. J.P. Howell, Chris Hatcher, Adam Liberatore, Nicasio, Ravin and Jansen combined for 7⅓ scoreless innings.
