The inevitable finally happened on Sunday, with Zack Greinke allowing a run. Two of them, in fact. But in the end if was old friend Juan Uribe twisting the dagger with a walk-off single off the center field wall against Kenley Jansen to lift the Mets over the Dodgers 3-2 in 10 innings in Sunday's series finale at Citi Field in New York.

Uribe, who was traded to New York on Friday night, drove in the winning run to beat the Dodgers in three of their seven games this week, also helping Atlanta to wins on Monday and Tuesday.

On Sunday, Curtis Granderson doubled to open the 10th inning against Juan Nicasio, catching Andre Ethier off guard in right field on what probably should have been a single. Then, out out later Jansen was brought in to face Uribe.

It marred what was a stunning comeback for the Dodgers in the ninth.

Down 2-0, the Dodgers got doubles from Adrian Gonzalez and Justin Turner with one out in the ninth inning to pull within a run, then got an RBI single from Yasmani Grandal to tie the game against Mets closer Jeurys Familia.

The Dodgers threatened in the 10th with a Jimmy Rollins walk and steal of second base with nobody out. But manager Don Mattingly had Scott Van Slyke bunt, on a 3-1 count. Van Slyke got the bunt down for his second career sacrifice, but Joc Pederson struck out and Howie Kendrick flew out to end the threat.

The Mets didn't score until the third inning, when Kirk Nieuwenhuis was hit by a pitch to open the inning. Kevin Plawecki followed with a single to center field, and when Pederson booted the ground ball Nieuwenhuis advanced to third base, putting runners on the corners with nobody out. A ground ball by deGrom to first base brought a throw home by Gonzalez, but it was too late. The streak was over.

Greinke's scoreless streak ended at 45⅔ innings.

The last run he allowed was on June 13, a home run by Justin Upton in San Diego. It took 162 batters faced before Greinke allowed his next run.

Instead of a sublime start from Greinke, the Dodgers on Sunday instead got a very good start. Greinke's wasn't at his sharpest, as he hit rookie Michael Conforto with the bases loaded in the sixth for the Mets' second run, and Greinke walked pitcher Jacob deGrom in the seventh.

But the end result was two runs allowed on four hits in seven innings, with three walks and three strikeouts, a line that far more often than not results in a win.

Just not on Sunday for Greinke.

deGrom allowed just two singles, one by Greinke in the third inning and another by Ethier in the fifth. He walked only two, Gonzalez in the seventh and Rollins in the eighth. But none were cashed in, thanks in part to deGrom's eight strikeouts in his 7⅔ scoreless innings.

This was the ninth time the Dodgers scored two or fewer runs in Greinke's last 13 starts, and the fourth time this season he left the game with a zero on the Dodgers' side of the scoreboard.

Here's how good Greinke has been this season: Sunday was only the fifth time in 20 starts this season that he allowed more than one run.

The Dodgers head home after a 5-5 trip, one that had a much more promising outlook on Friday night.

Up next

The Dodgers fly home Sunday night and are off Monday before hosting the Athletics for two games. Brett Anderson starts the series opener on Tuesday, with Sonny Gray pitching for Oakland.

Greinke, of course will continue to try to put up zeroes, as he is currently closer than anyone has ever been to Orel Hershiser since Hershiser set a major league record with 59 consecutive scoreless innings. Greinke is at 43⅔ innings, which has lowered his ERA from a really, really good 1.95 to an absurd 1.30 in six starts.

Mets starter Jacb deGrom, no slouch in his own right, is second in the National League and third in the majors with a 2.18 ERA, making this the second straight Sunday that Greinke matched up with another stud.

Greinke was activated from the paternity list to start on Sunday, a technically allowed after the Dodgers created room on Saturday night by sending Chin-hui Tsao and Josh Ravin to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

That other open roster spot was filled by Yimi Garcia, who was recalled from Triple-A after 2½ weeks on the farm. Garcia didn't allow a home run in Oklahoma City, which was his biggest problem with the Dodgers. He started off the year quite strong, but allowed seven home runs in a stretch of 26 games and 23 innings, leading to his demotion.

The Dodgers for now are banking on his 53 strikeouts and just nine walks in 37⅓ innings, looking for more of that going forward.

Zach Lee remains on the active roster, as the Dodgers might choose to use their coming off days for extra rest for their starting pitchers, meaning a possible start for Lee in the next 10 days. Of course, the Dodgers could acquire a pitcher by then, which apparently won't be Kansas City-bound Johnny Cueto.

Scott Van Slyke suffered the weirdest injury of the road trip.

The Dodgers finish up their road trip with four games in the Big Apple against the Mets, looking to return the favor after New York won two of three games in Los Angeles earlier in the month. The Dodgers' starting rotation is very much in flux right now, but here is a look at the probable starting pitchers for the series at Citi Field.

The Dodgers put their best feet forward to start the series, but the weekend is full of question marks.

Thursday, 4:10 p.m. PT (SportsNet LA, MLB Network)

Clayton Kershaw has a 1.36 ERA in his last 10 starts, with 101 strikeouts and 11 walks in 72⅔ innings, including no runs allowed in his last 20 innings. Bartolo Colon in his last five starts has allowed 21 runs on 40 hits in 27⅔ innings, and is 0-4 with a 6.18 ERA during that span.

Friday, 4:10 p.m. (SportsNet LA, MLB Network)

Zack Greinke is bound to allow a run at some point, though he has allowed none in any of his last six starts, including seven shutout frames on July 4 against the Mets. Greinke's scoreless streak is at 43⅔ innings, so his streak will either end on Friday or he will get closer to Orel Hershiser's record than anyone else ever has.

Speaking of scoreless, Jonathon Niese has allowed zero runs in two of his last three starts, and has a string of eight straight quality starts since the start of June, with a 2.28 ERA during that span.

Saturday, 4:10 p.m. (SportsNet LA)

Brandon Beachy was optioned after Monday's start, which opens Saturday up for the major league debut of Zach Lee. He was up for one day as the 26th man for the second game of the Dodgers' doubleheader in Washington on July 18, and as such isn't subject to the normal 10-day requirement after getting sent back to the minors. Lee is in line for Saturday after pitching seven strong innings on Monday for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

After going 47 straight starts without walking more than three batters in a game, dating back to 2012, Matt Harvey has walked at least four in three straight games, including issuing five free passes to the Dodgers on July 4. Through June, Harvey had 96 strikeouts and 17 walks, but in July has 16 strikeouts and 13 walks.

Sunday, 10:10 a.m. (SportsNet LA, TBS)

While Greinke leads baseball with eight starts allowing no runs this season, second place in the National League belongs to Jacob deGrom, who sports a 2.18 ERA heading into Sunday's series finale.

The Dodgers starter is up in the air, and as I type this possibly literally on the team flight to New York. It could be Brett Anderson, who has no structural damage to the Achilles tendon and will attempt to throw Thursday, which could lead to a Friday bullpen session in advance of remaining in the rotation for his turn.

Carlos Frias is still on the disabled list but could conceivably be ready in a pinch for Sunday, maybe. Joe Wieland started Tuesday for Triple-A and would be on regular rest Sunday, and is on the 40-man roster.

This Sunday, the TBS broadcast will not be blacked out in Los Angeles.
