A pair of Hall of Famers united earlier in the week at Camelback Ranch, as Vin Scully sat down with Sandy Koufax. The interview ran during Thursday's game telecast between the Dodgers and Angels on Prime Ticket.
Koufax was in Dodgers camp as a special advisor to chairman Mark Walter. Koufax, whom Scully called "the best story of the spring," was at Camelback Ranch since Feb. 17, and has worked with a multitude of Dodgers pitchers both in major league and minor league camp.
Josh Beckett credited Koufax with helping keep his body straight and his delivery going in one direction toward the plate, and Chris Capuano is working on keeping his feet closer together from the stretch at the suggestion of Koufax, something he said would help both control the running game and be effective in his pitches with runners on base.
"Sometimes you try and change just one small thing, and it will change three or four other things," Koufax said.
Scully asked Koufax, "What do you do with someone like Clayton Kershaw?"
"Say good luck, stay healthy. We've talked through the years. His way of throwing and his delivery is his own, and it's successful."
